"him, him and me" at The Red Room in Leederville is a warm, easy going improvised show. Using the "pretty flower" or "spokane" format, the performers establish a central scene and then jump through flashbacks and side moments that add depth without losing the central thread and characters. These flashbacks are particularly well chosen and well timed, enriching the story, and escalating the premises, rather than interrupting it.
Strong scene painting early on clearly grounds the audience in place, and there’s an ease to how the performers listen and build on each other’s ideas. That chemistry is especially impressive given this is the first time this trio has performed together publicly. The audience was clearly on board and enjoying the ride.
There are some delightful moments of physical and visual comedy — including memorable bechamel-based business - and when character dynamics click, the show really lifts. At times, the relationships and character wants take a little while to fully land, which means the narrative drive arrives later than it could. As those connections solidify, however, the story gains momentum and becomes increasingly playful and satisfying.
Overall, Him, Him & Me is a fun, generous piece of long-form improv with a strong foundation. With bolder early commitments and continued exploration of physicality, this show has plenty of room to grow — and it’s a pleasure to watch that growth begin.
