Improv RPG: High Society is a joyful, high-energy addition to the Improv RPG catalogue, blending Regency-era aesthetics with sharp local humour and genuinely playful audience collaboration. From the outset, the show commits fully to its Jane Austen–meets–Bridgerton world, and that commitment pays off in confident performances, strong genre storytelling, and a room buzzing with laughter.
The audience interaction is a real highlight. From smart initial pulls (a shop name, a fashionable item, a song, a scandal) to the token system that adds delightful, heightening chaos, the format makes the crowd feel meaningfully involved rather than simply initially consulted. The players clearly know each other’s strengths and lean into them generously, resulting in characters and relationships that feel realistic even as the plot veers wildly.
The use of music is particularly strong - underscoring scenes beautifully and delivering a genuinely impressive version of the audience-suggested song. Add in clever local references (the setting being Northbridge-erton was a crowd favourite), and you have a show that feels both polished and playfully Perth-specific.
Most importantly, the audience had a great time. There was constant laughter, audible discussion about returning for future nights, and a real sense that this continuing improvised storyline is something worth following. High Society is an ambitious, fun new format with a lot of heart - and it’s exciting to see where the season will go next.
