The Wetness is self described as somewhere between theatre and performance art. When I think of Fringe World, The Wetness is exactly what comes to mind. The performance I attended was totally sold out, which was absolutely deserved.
The ability of all three performers, Rose KB, Jack Caddy, and Hardil Singh, to capture the attention of the entire crowd so completely was incredible. There were significant periods of the performance where nothing was said, and yet the entire audience was rapt. The way the performers interacted with The Wetness was so powerful in keeping that attention focused.
The minimal props and set used were effective. The lights used to illuminate The Wetness were perfect in creating an otherworldly feeling to this substance we interact with every day - water.
There is an element of audience participation, but it is very much a team effort from the audience where they are included, no one person is singled out. It is worth noting that the entire space could rightly be classified as a splash zone. As the performers reminded us a few times - the more you put in, the more will come out.
The Wetness has elements of quite deep insight into our evolution as humans, and our relationship with water. Everyone's wetness is a driving part of the way they interact with the world. On the other hand, The Wetness is very very silly, and was genuinely just such a good time, and quintessential Fringe World viewing.
